Cardinals get big wins over Cossacks, Holsteins

In one of the craziest lead-ups to the district tournament ever put together, the Washburn Cardinal Boys Basketball team went through the gauntlet last week, playing four teams to finish out their regular season.

One of those came against the Max Cossacks and the outcome made this one a statement game for the Cardinals as they defeated Max 53-45.

The other match-ups of the week saw them falling to Mott-Regent 57-42 and Flasher 67-48 but prevailing easily against New Salem-Almont 61-39.

Entering the week on a long losing streak, Washburn looked to turn their fortunes around against the Max Cossacks.

The Cardinals’ final district match-up before the tournament, Max has a potent offense that would put the lock-down Washburn defense to the test.

Luckily, the boys in red and white were more than up to the challenge.
