Cardinals hungry for win during Homecoming game

By Danielle Abbott

A packed house came to cheer on the Washburn Cardinals during their 2008 Homecoming game. With screaming fans of all ages, the hype and energy strongly outweighed the numbingly cold weather. Jumping out for a quick lead, a consistent string of touchdowns and interceptions led the team 16-0 by the end of the first quarter. Continuing to utilize their strong defensive skills, the Cardinals dominated the field. Once the offensive players got their hands on the ball, their speed and agility attributed to the high scoring game. A bit of rain during the second half pulled a few fans out of the stands, but the guys continued to play with everything they had. Ending with the impressive score of 58-16, head coach Pete Moe said, "It was a big win for us and we needed that. We’ve had a couple of tight games and a couple of them haven’t gone our way, and it was fun to get out there and get a win, especially with Homecoming."
