Cardinals outlast Hettinger behind Retterath’s strong showing

The Washburn/Wilton-Wing/Center-Stanton Cardinals picked up a hardfought 3-1 win on the road against Hettinger on April 29, powered by steady pitching, timely hits, and a flawless defensive effort.
WWCS scored two runs in the top of the second inning and added another in the fifth to provide just enough offense in support of starting pitcher Jack Retterath, who turned in a complete game gem.
The right-hander went the distance on the mound, throwing seven innings while allowing six hits and one earned run.
Retterath struck out 10 and walked just two, keeping the Hettinger offense in check from start to finish.
The Cardinals never trailed in the game, taking a 2-0 lead in the second before Hettinger responded with a run in the bottom half of the inning.
