Cardinals place fifth in home tournament

The Washburn Cardinals looked to hold serve this past Thursday night, as they took on a powerful Shiloh Christian squad at home.

Unfortunately for the Redbirds, the home court proved to be no advantage for them, as the juggernaut that is the Shiloh squad jumped out to an early lead and easily swept through the first two sets, 8-25 and 7-25.

It looked to be more of the same in the decisive third set, as the Skyhawks leapt out to a big lead. The Cardinals, however, decided that they would not go quietly into the night, as they steeled their resolve, and with some grit, determination, hard hitting and timely serving they would fight their way back into contention.

Just as it looked like momentum had swung in favor of the team in red, and a fantastic fourth set would be impending, a questionable call would snuff out the rally and hand the decisive point and the victory to the visiting Skyhawks.
