Cardinals' season concludes at Region 4 Tournament
The Washburn Cardinals’ volleyball season came to a close on Monday, November 10, after a determined showing at the Region 4 Tournament in Killdeer.
Facing top-seeded New England in the opening round, the Cardinals started strong but couldn’t sustain their early momentum, ultimately falling in four sets (25-20, 18-25, 18-25, 18-25).
The Region 4 bracket featured some of the toughest competition in western North Dakota, with eight programs converging on Killdeer from November 10–13 for a chance to advance to the Class B State Tournament.
For Washburn, the journey ended just three wins shy of that goal, but not before the team displayed the same grit and teamwork that defined their season.
The opening set against New England showcased the Cardinals’ confidence and composure. With aggressive serving and consistent play at the net, Washburn took control early and closed out the first set 25-20, stunning the top-seeded Tigers.
However, New England quickly regrouped, adjusting their defensive coverage and limiting Washburn’s offensive rhythm in the following frames.
Despite several long ralliesand stretches of strong play from the Cardinals, the Tigers’ front-row attack proved too much to contain.
