Cardinals split final two home games

By Adam Thomas, BHG News Service

After riding a late season reemergence, the Washburn Cardinals are going into the district tournament on uncertain footing following a split of their final two games of the year against the Standing Rock Warriors and the Flasher Bulldogs. Taking down the Warriors was easy work with Cardinal domination in three straight sets, but the tables were flipped against the Bulldogs who took down the Washburn team three sets to none. Washburn was easily in command of the game flow when playing against Standing Rock last Tuesday, October 16. The Warriors didn’t stand much of a chance against a team-high ten kills from Lakyn Pfliiger and another eight kills from Mariah Bertolotto. Layne Pfliiger led the team in the aces category with a lucky seven. After a complete rout in the first set, 25-8; it was a little closer in the second but still easily in the Cardinals’ column, 25-17. Washburn finished off the Warriors in the third set 25-11, completing the sweep and adding another win in the record book.
