Cardinals split pair of matches
The Washburn Cardinals experienced both sides of a District 8 result last week, falling in a closely contested five-set match before responding with a road sweep two days later.
Washburn opened the week Tuesday, Sept. 15, when it hosted the Flasher Bulldogs. The Cardinals pushed the district-leading Bulldogs through all five sets but ultimately came up just short in a 3-2 loss.
Although the defeat ended with Flasher earning the victory, Washburn’s ability to extend the match to a deciding set demonstrated its ability to compete with one of the leading teams in Region 4. The Bulldogs emerged from the week with an unbeaten district and regional record.
The Cardinals did not have to wait long for an opportunity to bounce back.
Washburn traveled to White Shield on Thursday, Sept. 17, and responded with a decisive performance.
