Cardinals take pair of losses

The Lady Cardinals are looking to turn around a rough patch they went through last week, losing out to both Linton and Standing Rock teams.
The Washburn girls opened up their home court to the Linton Lions Dec. 5, falling behind slightly in the first quarter to land 8-points behind going into the second. The Cardinals managed to narrow the gap a bit, heading into halftime at 23-26. The girls managed to keep their pace in the third, staying a mere two points behind Linton before eventually losing the game 46-54.
Coach Pablo Ronderos said the girls showed some good effort, but some technical issues tripped them up.
“Turnovers and a couple defensive miscues probably played the biggest role in our loss, but we were right there at the end and felt like we should've had them,” Ronderos said.
The girls traveled to the Standing Rock court on Dec. 9 to take on the Warriors, but the team would again find some trouble spots. The Cardinals would slip behind Standing Rock in the first quarter, and head into half time 17 points behind. Ronderos said the team focused heavily on offense and let their defense slip.
“In Standing Rock it seemed like we were only interested in playing on one end of the floor,” Ronderos said. “Our defensive effort was poor.”
