Cardinals take third at county tournament

By Adam Thomas, BHG News Service

For the Washburn Cardinals, the McLean County tournament was the first big test for this year’s starting lineup. They still have some work to do in practice, but the results from the tournament are a promising start for a team looking to get back into the regional tournament. After winning their first game against White Shield, the Cardinals lost to Our Redeemers and eventually went on to take third place with a win over Max on the final night of the tournament. On the first day of the tournament, Washburn started things off against the White Shield Warriors in the opening game and didn’t waste any time taking control of the tempo. Holding the Warriors to just 11 points in the first half, the Cardinals were able to get all of their players some game time. "We got a chance to try out many different combinations and a lot of the players contributed to the game," said Cardinal Head Coach Keith Jacobson of the lopsided 52-28 win.
