The Cardinals came from behind to steal a narrow lead and dramatic win from Shiloh in a home game last week.
Washburn-Wilton-Center-Stanton was a run behind right out the gate May 9, with the Skyhawks nabbing two in the first inning and allowing the Cardinals only one. Both teams struggled to make it around the bases for the next three innings, freezing the scoreboard until the fifth, when WWCS was able to sneak one more run and tie up the game at 2-2.
Heading into the sixth, Shiloh-Christian looked to take back the game and took a final run and a 3-2 lead. But in the bottom of the seventh, the Cardinals knocked out another two and edged out a slight lead and last-minute victory over the Skyhawks.
Braydee Hanson would go two-for-two at bat, with Koby Yantzer and Karson Backer going two for three. Garrett Mosbrucker would take the win for the Cardinals, pitching seven innings and giving up six hits and three runs.
In the May 2 matchup against Heart River, the Cardinals would take an early lead and hold off the Cougars’ offense for a 12-9 victory.
Yantzer would go four hits for four at bats, with Backer, Hunter Oberlander and Logan Schmitz each going two for three. Nolan Teigen would pitch five and a third innings, with Garrett Mosbrucker pitching one and a third and Backer rounding out the last third.
