Cardinals’ improve to 2-1 on young season

The Washburn Cardinals girls basketball team continued its strong early-season play on Tuesday, Dec. 16, earning a convincing 54–27 road victory over Velva in non-district action.
Washburn set the tone early with steady defensive pressure and efficient offense, building control of the game from the opening minutes and never allowing Velva to find a consistent rhythm.
The Cardinals were disciplined on both ends of the floor, limiting second-chance opportunities while capitalizing on defensive stops to create scoring chances.
The win marked an important step forward for Washburn as the Cardinals were able to put their full lineup on the floor for the first time this season.
Head coach Jared Obering noted the significance of finally having all available players participating, even if the team is still working through lingering health concerns.
