In what looked to be a competitive showdown between neighboring towns early on turned out to be a 22-3 whitewash, as Wilton-Wing amassed 11 runs in the sixth inning to put away the Cardinals home team.

The May 4 meeting at the Washburn Softball Field started out with a bang for the Red Birds thanks to a first inning 2-run home run by Kaylin Klindtworth, who was given a hero’s welcome at home plate.

But from there, Washburn couldn’t stop the bleeding — with much of it their own doing — as a ground ball through an infielder’s legs and a passed ball contributed to the Miners quickly retaking the lead 5-2 in the second inning.
