Cold stalls spring sports

For local sports teams, the start of their spring season has been less about beating opponents and more about trying to combat the blustery conditions that continue to put a hold on play.
Softball and baseball players had yet to hit the field this season, as of Monday, as weekend snow once again covered fields in the area and shut down games.
The Washburn Cardinal softball team has already had four games called off so far this season, with a match against Wilton-Wing set for Thursday hanging in the air.
“We are hoping that is will be a go with Wilton-Wing, but the temperature outlook doesn’t look promising,” Cardinal coach Katie Kulzer Yetterboe said. With Monday’s game between the Miners and Central McLean shuttered due to overnight snowfall, a cancellation Thursday would be the second this season for Wilton-Wing.
Kulzer Yetterboe said all but one of the canceled games were set to be rescheduled, but that the window was getting smaller as winter continues into spring.
