County tourney affected by weather, Cardinals split in postponed play

By Danielle Abbott

The annual McLean County Tourney went underway on Thursday in Garrison. With notification of severe winter weather approaching the area, boys traveled from every corner of the county for the first night of regular scheduled play. Washburn opened the tourney against Center. "Center came out of the gates shooting very well and built a four-piont lead in the end of the first quarter which ballooned into a 22-point lead at half time," said head coach Trevor Sinclair. During the second half, Washburn and Center scored the same amount of points, but Washburn was unable to get over their massive first-half lead. The Wildcats’ strong rebounding skills also held their lead. "We can’t have one lousy quarter of basketball, which we did in the second quarter only scoring four points, and expect to keep up with a team like the Wildcats," Sinclair said. Camden Moran and Kier Vander Wal were the Cardinals’ two leading scorers with 12 and nine points respectively. After the disappointing 66-42 loss to Center, the Cardinals began preparing for their Friday night game against Max.
