Harriers cap ’12 season at state

By Suzanne Werre, BHG News Service

There are only 41 weeks until next cross country season, and Southern McLean Coach Laura Tweeten is already looking forward to it, just a few days after this season finished. The Roughriders capped their 2012 season at the state cross country meet in Dickinson this past weekend led by top-20 finisher Abi Waloch who placed 14th with a time of 16:15. The girls’ Class B division was won by Dakota Perez with a time of 15:44. Waloch, along with Watford City’s Asha Smith, was considered a frontrunner in the meet, having finished either first or second in all of her meets this season, but Saturday’s meet was far from typical, as temperatures plunged into the low 30s and the snow and sleet started to fly just minutes before the start of the race. “It was a very hard run,” said Tweeten. “It happens. It was just a kind of crazy day.”
