Head coach of the Wilton-Wing girls basketball team, Lisa Jenkins, was awarded Monday with the Coach of the Year award for Region 5. The team had a great season with much to be proud of finishing their regular season at 14-5 and a fourth seed in the district. They entered the District 10 tournament with a chip on their shoulder after losing some regular season games to district opponents. After beating Washburn the first night they met the top seeded Trojans. They won a thrilling overtime game to head to the championship to face Underwood. The Miners won the District 10 tournament and earned a number one seed heading into regions. The Miners would fall to the Flasher Bulldogs in the first round.

Jenkins was no doubt disappointed by the early exit from regionals, but maintained that she was very proud of how her team and gave thanks to her kids for the award. "It is always an honor when you receive an award from your peers. This award is really earned by your kids, I appreciate all the work they gave me throughout the year. I really appreciated the leadership and the commitment we got from our seniors this season. A very unselfish group who will be missed next season. All of them are very good students, and have extremely good work ethic. It is always hard to say goodbye to seniors, you spend a lot of time with them, they become like your own children. Every one of these young ladies has a very bright future ahead of them. I wish them well in all of their endeavors," Jenkins said of her senior class.
