Lady Cardinals split four-game week

By Danielle Abbott

Though the schedule might be tough, pushing the Washburn girls basketball team to four games in one week, the Cardinals were determined to come out on top when it was over. Their week started on Tuesday when they hosted Garrison for a complete domination. Jumping out to a quick 16-7 lead in the first quarter, the Cardinals held onto that lead, which grew with every point. "As a team we played very well against Garrison," said head coach Keith Jacobson. Samantha Schell led the team with 19 points, nine rebounds and four steals. Jacobson said, "We were very aggressive and attacked Garrison throughout the game." That aggression was obvious on the scoreboard, as the clock ran out with a 54-18 win for the Cardinals. The girls took a 24-hour break, and then hit the court once again on Thursday as they traveled to meet Kidder County. The first half started out pretty even for the Cardinals, ending 12-14 at the end of the first half.
