The Wilton-Wing Miners girls basketball team came home after a good start to the season to face a physical Medina/Pingree-Buchanan team, whose only loss came at the hands of Carrington.
The Miners would bring their undefeated record home after playing a great overtime game against Dickinson Trinity the previous week.
Head coach Lisa Jenkins decided to come out and press to start the game to wear out the short bench of the Lady Thunder’s backcourt.
Despite many turnovers, the Miners weren’t able to capitalize in the first half of quarter one like Jenkins expected. The Thunder were up by one. Jenkins settled her team down and in the latter half of the quarter McKenna Weisenburger would come up with some steals that would be converted into quick points. At the end of one, the Miners led 11-8.
The second quarter Brooklyn Vollmer and Lauren Koski held the Miners in the game scoring all the points of the second, and the Miners remained ahead by three heading into the half 20-17.
In the third quarter, both teams struggled to get much offense going missing some open looks, but the Miners remained ahead by their magic number throughout the game by three, heading into the fourth 26-23.
