The Wilton-Wing Miners softball team defeated the Ray Jay’s Tuesday to earn a trip to Fargo for the Girls State Fast Pitch Softball Tournament.

Stanley had beat the Miners the night before to put the Miners into the win or go home game verses Ray. Courtney Townsend pitched for the Jays, while Miners coach Trevor Yetterboe’s ace, Tonya Dickson, pitched for Wilton.

The Miners started a bit sloppy in the first with an error to third that allowed Ray to jump out to 1-0 lead. Townsend struck out the side in the bottom of the first, and this was not the start the Miners were looking for. The second continued the same way with the Miners mishandling throws and the Jays capitalized scoring three more runs to go up 4-0. The Miners would gain a run on a bases loaded walk and were down by three headed into the third.

Dickson found her groove in the third throwing some nasty change ups striking out two with no runs. Townsend had pitched well up to this point but couldn’t find the strike zone walking three straight batters.
