BHG News
The Miners faced off against the Cardinals at Washburn High School last week, ultimately taking the victory after some close sets.
The home team came struggled a bit to open the first set going down 17-12 with two straight aces from senior Karlee Arnold of Wilton forcing Washburn to call timeout. The Cardinals would respond with five straight points to force Wilton to take a timeout with the home crowd cheering loudly. The Miners would again serve beautifully, this time coming from McKenna Weisenberger, closing out the first set 25-19.
The second set Washburn came out of the gates with their foot to the floor going up 6-1 before the Miners knew what happened. Head coach Alison Smith called timeout to slow the momentum which worked wonderfully, allowing the Miners to get back in it. Taylor Bergquist would serve up three aces in a row to get her team back in it.
Cardinal Mandy Schell would respond with two great kills of her own, leading her team to a two-point advantage 20-18. The second set would be won at the net though with the Miners Tya Schiele blocking a spike followed up with a great kill. Wilton-Wing would close this set 25-23 to go up two sets to none.
