Late rally falls short
Despite a spirited seventh-inning rally, Washburn Post 12 came up just short in a 7-5 loss to the Bismarck Senators 18U squad on Sunday, June 15.
Playing at home, Washburn entered the final frame trailing 7-0 before mounting a furious comeback that ultimately fell two runs shy.
The Senators built their lead gradually, scoring two runs in the second, one in the third, and four more over the sixth and seventh innings.
Their 11-hit effort kept constant pressure on Washburn’s pitching staff and provided just enough cushion to weather the late-game storm.
Washburn was held scoreless for six innings before erupting in the bottom of the seventh. Alex Retterath sparked the rally with an RBI single, while Ethan Retterath and Jonah Miller each added RBIs to close the gap.
Jack Retterath, Colton Becher, Charles Sannes, and River Kjelstrup also contributed hits, with Kjelstrup reaching base twice in the game.
