Local lands whopper walleye

By Michael Johnson, Editor

Gary Weisenburger thought he hooked into a fence post at the bottom of Lake Audubon on a recent fishing outing with his twin brother Blackie. It turns out it was an 11-pound walleye, the biggest walleye he’s had on the line in his life. He had a brand new rod, and as he reeled, he couldn’t get the drag to tighten up enough. As he brought it up to the surface, it took off on a run that lasted about 10 minutes. “I tell you, my reeling arm was hurting,” Weisenburger said. When he had it up to the boat again for a net, his brother narrowly missed it, and it took off on another run.
