McLean XC Finishes Strong at Class B West Region Championships

The Southern McLean Roughriders cross country teams continued their steady run through the Class B ranks with a strong showing at the 2025 West Region Championships on Saturday, October 11, at Black Sands Golf Course.
Facing deep fields and competitive programs from across western North Dakota, both the boys and girls teams turned in performances that demonstrated balance, consistency, and growing depth.
The Southern McLean boys finished an impressive fourth overall among 28 teams in the varsity 5,000-meter race, scoring 159 points, just one point behind third-place Trinity Christian of Williston.
Bowman County claimed the regional title with 17 points, followed by New Town (75) and Shiloh Christian (142).
Freshman Daniel Neumiller led the Roughriders with a top-10 fi nish, crossing the line ninth overall in 17:58.09.
Sophomore Easton Kugler placed 21st in 18:54.69, while senior Beckett Kadrmas came through 24th with a time of 19:23.62.
Junior Caiden Cleveland (52nd, 20:17.22) and seventh-grader Theron Arbach (53rd, 20:21.88) rounded out the team’s top five scorers, all contributing key points toward the fourthplace finish.
Additional varsity runners included Valerio Hernandez (77th, 21:15.1), Jaime Hernandez (112th, 22:28.75), Julius Schaan (128th, 23:04.03), and Brayden Sharp (142nd, 24:09.09).
In the 3,000-meter JV/JH boys division, eighthgrader Peyton Auer stood out with an 11th-place finish in 14:27.15, holding his own against a fi eld of 50 runners.
His result capped off a solid showing for Southern McLean’s developing middle school program, which continues to feed talent into the varsity ranks.
Southern McLean’s girls team earned a top-10 finish, placing eighth out of 19 full teams in the varsity 5,000-meter division with 249 points.
Bowman County (29) an 
Killdeer (76) led the field, but the Roughriders’ mix of youth and experience helped them hold their own among larger programs.
Seventh-grader Marissa Hruby paced the team, fi nishing 38th overall in 23:42.56. Eighth-grader Ciarra Steinert followed at 48th (24:30.53), while sophomore Erin Conoly and senior Aubrey Steinert came in close together at 51st (24:49.09) and 55th (25:00.12), respectively.
Freshman Avery Usselman completed the scoring five in 73rd place (26:38.59).
Other Roughrider finishers included Briella Hruby (94th, 28:34.81), Brooklyn Steinert (112th, 31:38.94), and Natalie Sweeney (114th, 32:15.31)
