Miner football wins one, loses one to start season

The Wilton-Wing football team wasted no time in showing that they are a team to be contended with this year by topping the Shiloh Skyhawks in exciting fashion for the season opener. Junior Jared Hruby carved up the Skyhawk defense, rushing for 147 yards and two touchdowns to lead the Miners to a hard fought 26-24 victory. The Miners came out strong out of the gate moving it down the field on the first possession. However, a pair of untimely penalties put their inaugural drive of the season to a halt. The Skyhawks answered by taking to the air to score the first touchdown of the game, despite fighting with yellow flag troubles of their own. "We can’t have as many penalties again, we killed too many drives because of mindless penalties," Miner Head Coach Jeff Frank said. In the second quarter, Wilton-Wing unleashed an impressive run dominated drive led by Hruby, who drove the team into the endzone, tying the game up before the half.
