Miners advance to District Title after two strong showings
The Wilton-Wing Miners are one win away from a District 8 championship after securing back-to-back victories at the district tournament in Washburn.
Second seeded Wilton-Wing opened play Friday, Feb. 27 with a commanding 69-37 win over seventh seeded White Shield Warriors.
The Miners followed that effort Monday, March 2 with a 60-53 semifinal victory over third seeded Washburn Cardinals.
With the two wins, Wilton-Wing advances to the District 8 Championship game on March 3 at Washburn, where they will face top seeded Central McLean Cougars.
In the opening round, thE Miners set the tone early against White Shield with a defensive effort that limited clean looks and forced difficult shots.
Wilton-Wing controlled the pace and created opportunities in transition, building a steady lead as the game progressed.
