Miners boys remain atop District standings
The Wilton-Wing Miners boys basketball team navigated a challenging week with two wins, showing both resilience and depth as injuries tested the roster.
The Miners opened the stretch with a hard-fought 72-62 road victory over Garrison on Tuesday, Jan. 20, before returning home and rolling past Mandaree 82-33 on Jan. 24.
At Garrison, Wilton-Wing found itself in a physical contest against a Troopers team that made scoring difficult throughout the night.
Head coach Scott Wolff acknowledged that the Miners were not at their sharpest offensively, but credited Garrison for its defensive effort.
“We did not play real well up in Garrison, but credit their defense, that caused it,” Wolff said.
Despite the challenges, Wilton-Wing leaned on strong individual performances to pull away late.
Teigen Earsley delivered a standout effort, pouring in 34 points to lead all scorers and provide the offensive spark the Miners needed.
Will Bergquist added 18 points, while Brady Hansen chipped in 14. Kaleb Benning contributed six points before suffering an injury during the game.
The win came at a cost, as injuries began to mount for Wilton-Wing. Benning was hurt in the Garrison game and did not suit up on Saturday.
