Miners, Cardinals make All-Academic team

Twenty-two local athletes were honored this month for both their athletic and scholastic achievements, as Wilton-Wing and Washburn athletes were named to the Region 5 All-Academic teams.
Ten girls from the Washburn Cardinals and 12 from the Wilton-Wing Miners were recognized recently by making one of two academic teams. Seven players from Washburn and eight from Wilton were named to the Region 5 All-Academic First Team, earning a 3.70 GPA or higher to qualify. Three more from Washburn and another four from Wilton made it on the second team by earning a 3.20 or higher GPA.
Representing Wilton-Wing on the first team are Taryn Schurhamer, Tara Binstock, Kendra Schill, Erin Thompson, Tya Schiele, Taylor Bergquist, Sarah Selle and Kiara Johnson. Washburn players on the first team are Madelyn Jennings, Jenna Retterath, Kiara Strickland, Caitlyn Scheresky, Gabriela Oberg, Gracey Russell and Brookelyn Dahme.
Earning a spot on the second team were Wilton-Wing players Nicole Horne, Courtney Seelye, Hayle Boechler and Kayla Rohrich. Washburn athletes on the second team were Jordan Waldren, Keyra Mittleider and Emily Russell.
Honorees were announced on the final night of the Region 5 volleyball tournament, held at Shiloh Christian High School in Bismarck Nov. 6, 7 and 9.
