The Wilton-Wing Miners visited the Washburn Cardinals on the 24th to play on Washburn’s Pink Night. The first set began with a point to the Cardinals, but the Miners quickly overtook them with a score of 1-4. A kill by junior Madelyn Jennings put the Cardinals on the fast track to catch up to the Miners, followed by two kills from sophomore Ginger Goven, making the score 10-13.
Senior Gracey Russell tipped the ball to give the Cardinals the serve, and would then serve an ace, tying the game 14-14. Another ace by Russell would put the Cardinals in the lead. Wilton-Wing and Washburn would remain neck and neck for the rest of the set, but the Miners eventually won the set 20-25.
Wilton-Wing scored the first point of the second set, but a tip from senior Jordan Waldren kept the Cardinals close behind. The Miners quickly pulled away, however, and before long earned themselves a comfortable 10 point lead at 1-11.
The Cardinals scored another point after this, and a spike from Jennings attempted to catch up, but the Miners managed to remain in the lead. A kill from Russell would show that the Cardinals weren’t giving up, but it wasn’t enough, and the Miners won the set 14-25.
