Miners dominate Comets

By Brenda L. Shelkey

The Miners didn’t break 100 points in their first district game against the Underwood Comets last Saturday, but they came close. The Miners came out gunning for the Comets, outscoring them two-to-one in the first quarter and ending the game with a monumental 98-58 win. Head Coach Brad Brekke said, "I thought we played at a pretty high level the first half. It was a nice start to the district season. Defensively, we still make some bad decisions at times but it is early and that is correctable." Cole Bender and Dillon Loper were the big scorers with 27 and 24 points respectively. Tanner Schlafman and Zach Johnson each added 17 points. Austin Dusek made four points, Ty Fetzer three, and Lorin St. Claire, Derrek Heins, and Andy Mokena each had two. They made it hard for the struggling Comets to have confidence in their shots.
