Miners extend winning ways

By Adam Thomas, BHG News Service

Apart from their mid-week defeat of Washburn (see article on this page), the Wilton-Wing Miners faced down and defeated two other teams last week to lengthen their winning streak to an impressive eight games. Wilton-Wing defeated the Center-Stanton Wildcats in three straight sets on Tuesday and then had a rare Saturday afternoon game against the Hettinger-Scranton Black Devils that went 3-1 in the Miners’ favor. Center-Stanton put up a good fight in the first set of their match, but Wilton-Wing had the ball bounce their way just a bit more allowing them to take it 27-25. In the remaining sets, however, the Miners were in full control; completely dominating the second set 25-12 and keeping the lead almost the entire third set to finish off the match 25-21, defeating Center-Stanton 3-0. The most competitive game of the week was against the hard hitting Hettinger-Scranton team. The teams mirrored one another for a large part of the first set before the Miners started to break away after a trio of kills by Heidi Clausen, Zadie Johnson, and Jocelyn Bergquist.
