The Wilton-Wing Miners softball team headed to state amid cheers last week on their way to the team’s first ever appearance in the state tournament. The Miners defeated a good Ray team in the win or go home game the previous week in Turtle Lake in the west region tournament.

The Miners opened the game against number one-ranked team from the east Kindred-Richland, whose only loss in class B came against Thompson early in the season.

Coach Yetterboe called on his ace once again, Tonya Dickson, to start, while KR called their ace to the mound, Theresa Klinnert.

Klinnert would pitch a brilliant game, with only a walk of the first batter and an error in the seventh away from a perfect game.

Kindred would get runs consecutively in the first, second and third. Dickson would settle down in the fourth and pitched well the rest of the way striking out one and walking three over six innings.
