Both varsity Miners teams had a rough night when they traveled to Garrison last week, with Wilton-Wing girls taking a beating and the Miner boys making a comeback a little too late.
The Lady Miners hit the Garrison gym first on Dec. 19, facing the Troopers for double-header games. Wilton-Wing lagged behind early on, with a 10-point deficit after the first quarter. The gap would continue to grow in the second, with the Miners hitting halftime down 12-26.
The girls would get a second win in the third and push for 13 points, their best quarter for scoring. But the Lady Troopers were unyielding, making 19 of their own in the third holding onto the lead.
In the final quarter, Garrison would hold off the Miners, allowing a single free throw and not another point for the team. The Troopers would manage another 10, and take the big win 55-26.
Next up were the Miner boys, who were coming off of a close lose to Solen just days before. Wilton-Wing would slip initially, with Garrison gaining a significant 21-7 lead in the first quarter. But the second served the Miners a little better, with the Wilton-Wing boys narrowing the gap to 11 and heading into halftime down 19-30.
