Miners finish District 8 Tournament with resilience and optimism
The Wilton-Wing Miners wrapped up their 2025 volleyball season with a strong showing at the Division B, District 8 Tournament in Underwood, playing with determination and unity that refl ected months of hard work and improvement.
While the season ended just shy of a regional berth, Head Coach Heidi Weisgarber said she couldn’t be prouder of the group’s fight and commitment through every match.
Seeded sixth entering the tournament, Wilton-Wing opened play on Thursday, October 30, against thirdseeded New Salem-Almont in the quarterfi nal round.
Despite an impressive effort, the Miners fell 3-1 (25-14, 25-21, 22-25, 25-18) to a strong Holsteins team that went on to finish as the District 8 runner-up.
The Miners battled through each set, earning a gritty third-set win by playing clean defense and capitalizing on New Salem-Almont’s unforced errors, but ultimately couldn’t overcome early struggles with consistency. Coach Weisgarber said her team wasn’t able to find their rhythm early on.
