The Wilton-Wing Miners took a tough loss last week against their region rivals, the Underwood Comets, winning one of four sets during the home matchup.
Both teams hit the Miners’ home court with determination Oct. 5, eager to see which of the local rivals would come out on top. In set No. 1, a staggeringly similar level of skill on either side of the net kept the score close, with neither team securing a strong lead. The Comets initially pulled ahead slightly with a 12-10 lead, but were soon caught up to.
Closing in on the end of the first set, the scoreboard reflected the inability for either team to pull away, watching a 23-21 lead for the Miners end back at a 23-23 tie.
Wilton-Wing would inevitably sneak in two more points to take the first set with a close 25-23 lead.
Set No. 2 would see the Miners starting to slip, as they lost some steam and failed to steadily keep up with the Comets. Underwood would maintain a multi-point lead for the entirety of the set, letting Wilton-Wing trail three or four behind until widening the gap and taking a 25-18 win.
