Miners open season with sweep of SZ
Wilton-Wing and Strasburg-Zeeland opened their respective 2025 campaigns against each other in a match played Sept. 2, in Wilton, and the homestanding Miners came away with the victory in straight sets.
SZ grabbed an early 7-4 lead in the first set after a pair of service aces by Kadee Silbernagel, but WW answered with a 6-0 run, including four straight aces by Sophia Krush, to move into the lead (10-7) for good.
Later, Claire Leidy connected for back-to-back kills to extend the lead to 16-9, and the Miners would hold at least a six-point advantage the rest of the way. Two kills by Krush, another by Tessa Miller, and an ace by Chayse Schafer pushed the margin to double digits (21-11), and WW went on to take the set, 25-13
