Miners rebound from tight district loss with statement win over Drake-Anamoose

The Wilton-Wing Miners girls basketball team split their two-game homestand last week, narrowly falling to New Salem-Almont on Tuesday before regrouping in a physical, confidence-building win over Drake-Anamoose on Friday.
The results moved the Miners to 7-4 overall as they enter a crucial stretch of January basketball that will feature multiple regional and district implications.
Wilton-Wing opened the week at home on Tuesday, Jan. 13, in a tightly contested matchup against New Salem-Almont, one of the top programs in Region 4 and a team that has set the pace in District 8 throughout the first half of the season.
The Miners brought defensive intensity and transition urgency early, matching New Salem-Almont’s length and pace at both ends of the floor.
Despite a closely played first half, New Salem-Almont found small scoring runs in the third quarter to create separation.
