Miners show offensive firepower
The Wilton-Wing Miners softball team experienced a wide range of results over a three-game stretch last week, showcasing both explosive offensive potential and the challenges of facing top competition.
Wilton-Wing opened the week April 15, with a 6-4 road victory over Harvey, using timely hitting and a strong pitching performance to secure the win.
Despite falling behind 4-1 after the first inning, the Miners settled in and chipped away at the deficit. Wilton-Wing plated two runs in the fourth inning to close the gap, then broke through with three more in the sixth to take control.
Taylor Zimmerman led the offensive effort, going 2-for-3 with an RBI and a walk, while Avery Mosset and Myah Brossart each drove in two runs.
Cambyll Fanta added an RBI, and Elyse Tufte contributed a hit as the Miners totaled seven hits in the contest.
In the circle, Tessa Miller delivered a complete-game effort, allowing just four hits and four runs, only one of which was earned. Miller worked around eight walks while striking out four, keeping Harvey from adding to its early lead.
Wilton-Wing carried that momentum into Thursday’s matchup against Washburn/Center-Stanton, where the Miners erupted offensively in a dominant 17-6 victory.
