Miners show resilience and growth during District 8 tournament run
The Wilton-Wing Miners may not have finished among the four teams advancing out of the 2026 NDHSAA Class B District 8 Tournament, but their performance across the bracket demonstrated determination, competitiveness, and the kind of fight that signals a program continuing to move forward.
Facing a challenging field that featured several of the region’s top squads, Wilton-Wing battled through adversity and delivered multiple strong stretches of play during the postseason event.
Tournament action began with a play-in contest in which Center-Stanton defeated White Shield 56-20 to earn the eighth seed.
That result set the full bracket in motion and quickly led to a series of matchups featuring some of the district’s strongest teams.
Flasher advanced with a 51-25 win over Center-Stanton, Washburn defeated New Salem-Almont 40-25, and Central McLean rolled past Mandaree 79-45 to secure its place in the semifinals.
Wilton-Wing opened its tournament in Game 5 against third-seed Garrison. Despite a determined effort, the Miners ran into a Troopers squad that found rhythm on both ends of the floor.
Garrison pulled away as the game progressed, eventually claiming a 64-39 victory. While the result sent Wilton-Wing to the consolation bracket, the Miners remained focused on extending their postseason and finishing as high as possible in the final standings.
That focus paid off in their next contest.
