Wilton-Wing Miners brought home sixth place for Class B fast-pitch softball this weekend after a three-day battle at the state tournament in Jamestown.
The 2017 State Class B Softball Tournament was full of ups and downs for the Miners, starting with their Round 1 game against the Central Cass Squirrels. The match-up proved challenging for Wilton-Wing, who struggled both offensively and defensively during the game.
“The girls had some jitters the first game against Central Cass, who is one of the best teams in the state,” Head coach for the Miners Trevor Yetterboe said.
The game was a rough start for the Miners, who were behind 5-0 after a single inning and eventually lost 18-0. Heading into their second game, the girls shook off the nerves and turned up the intensity that had landed them at State as the second seed.
Wilton-Wing would dig in their heels and take a 8-7 victory over the Patriots on Friday.
