Miners take third in Mandan Holiday Tourney

By Brenda L. Shelkey

It was a bit of a rollercoaster ride for the Wilton-Wing Miners during the Mandan Holiday Tournament held Dec. 29-31. Head Coach Brad Brekke went into the tournament knowing his team would be tested, especially against state ranked Shiloh Christian. The Miners beat New Salem 71-58 the first night, losing to Shiloh 70-46 the second night, and coming back 74-59 against Bottineau the final night to earn the third place finish. Cole Bender, Tanner Schlafman and Austin Dusek were the big scorers in the game against New Salem with 22, 16 and 12 points respectively. Dillon Loper, Ty Fetzer and Zach Johnson each added 7 points. The Miners were pumped for the semi-final game against Shiloh Christian on Tuesday night. Somewhere between that game and the Shiloh game, the Miners lost the inertia and fell to the Skyhawks 70-46. Brekke said, "The Shiloh game was one game where the score didn’t indicate how big of a kicking it was. Obviously, they are a pretty good team."
