Post 12 Baseball battles opponents and elements

June in central North Dakota means two things, American Legion baseball and rain. Neither of which go together, but for some strange fluke of nature, tend not to be mutually exclusive.
Alas, so it has been, for Washburn’s Post 12 Legion team this past fortnight, as they have battled not only their opponents, but also the elements, in a vain hope of facing said opponents.
On June 10, the Bismarck Capitals made the straight shot up Highway 83 to challenge Post 12 on their home turf.
The visitors started off the game slowly, probably suffering jet lag from the long journey, and obviously stymied by Post 12 starting pitcher Danny Henke, as goose eggs were the order for the top of the inning through two.
In the bottom of the second, Post 12 exploded on offense, pushing four runs across the plate to light up the scoreboard.
Unfortunately, a promising offense start proved to be a bit premature, as bats went silent and Post 12 would limp offensively through the rest of the game, and held scoreless in the bottom of the third through seventh inning.
