Post 12 blows away Bowman in Legion opener

By Robyn Rohde, BHG News Service

Over the last few years as the baseball coach for Washburn-Wilton-Center-Stanton, Kip Erickson has seen massive talent come through his program. Three specific players that top his list include Cole Bender, Cody Durkee and Charlie Retterath. For the 2010 American Legion schedule Erickson is pleased to have all three returning to combine with several strong younger players. "They’ll fit in real well," he said. It helps that two of the three have seen college playing time as Durkee played at a Minnesota college following his transfer after the first semester. Bender is an outfielder on the Bismarck State College roster. From the spring baseball season, all the big hitters, Mitch Wachendorf, Evan Eberle, Wendlin Berger, Brett Schreiner and Kirk Sailer, are making the transition to Legion baseball.  If the team’s season opener in Bowman last Tuesday was any indication, Post 12 is positioned to have a great season with high postseason aspirations. The Section 7 foes fell to the Post 12’s bombastic bats and precision pitching 8-1 and 13-2 in six innings.
