Post 12 plays well at state

By Michael Johnson, Editor

The Washburn Post 12 American Legion baseball team can say they played well after competing against the top teams in the state and ended up in the final three. The team ended the season with a loss on Saturday against the top team in the state, Grafton. The Post 12 team had a great season. They ended things with a 32-6 overall record. They earned two of those losses at the state tournament against No.1 Grafton and No. 2 Wahpeton. “Everybody else we matched up real well with,” head coach Kip Erickson said. The team was able to put Velva and Lisbon away in their time at the state tournament. Both teams definitely earned their spots at the state tournament. It was not the top finish that the team would have certainly liked to grasp, but third spot is nothing to hang a head over. The team was just a couple games from being able to advance to the Central Prairie Regionals. That’s a great accomplishment. “Everybody did well,” Erickson noted. Erickson said the tournament was similar to the last state tournament as the team took third place last year, too.
