Post 12 season ends in third round of district tournament

Washburn Post 12 saw its summer baseball season come to an end after going 1-2 during the American Legion Baseball District Tournament, held July 17-19 in Washburn.
Post 12 opened the tournament with a 7-3 loss to Hettinger, responded with an 8-0 shutout victory over the Hazen Post 189 Astros and was eliminated following a 6-2 loss to Belfield/South Heart in the third round.
Washburn finished the season with an overall record of 16-11.
Post 12 began district play Friday, July 17, against Hettinger. After two scoreless innings, Hettinger moved ahead with one run in the top of the third. Washburn answered immediately, scoring twice in the bottom half to take a 2-1 lead.
The advantage did not last long, as Hettinger broke the game open with six runs in the fourth inning. Washburn’s offense continued to put runners on base but was unable to close the gap until adding one run in the bottom of the seventh.
Post 12 finished with 10 hits, three more than Hettinger, but stranded opportunities throughout the 7-3 loss.
Hunter Wolf and Ethan Retterath each went 2-for-4 to lead Washburn at the plate. River Kjelstrup recorded a hit and drove in two runs, while Oscar Wood added a hit and one RBI.
