Post 12 stranded with a pair of losses

During Washburn’s doubleheader against Beulah last Tuesday, the statistic that screamed from the Post 12 scorecard was a two game combined 20 base runners left stranded. The Section 7 twin bill was decided by less than three runs, so any of those stranded runners could have made a difference. Post 12 coach Kip Erickson downplayed the 8-6 and 6-5 defeats but the regular season standings are heating up as the victories put the Cyclones back in the title chase. "I guess it’s how you want to read into it," he said. "They were just losses, it hurt because all section games count." Washburn had their chances to score in both games, but Post 12 was forced to come from behind. Tyler Schmidt scored and Luke Senske came around from second as Beulah’s top of the lineup posted a pair of runs in the first inning off Kirk Sailer. Beulah put up four runs on two hits to open action with a 4-0 lead. Cyclone pitcher Tanner Dolbec fanned all three of Post 12’s top of the order in the first. By the third inning Cody Durkee reached base on balls then advanced to third base on an errant pick off attempt. Durkee scored on an RBI single from Cody Bender. Bender went 4-for-8 in the evening to break his hitting slump.
