At the end of last summer, Post 12 was playing for an American Legion state tournament berth and fell to Hazen.

This summer, they were in a similar position but taking on the Beulah Cyclones for an American State Tournament berth.

After losing 3-0 to Velva in the opening round of the Class A West Region Tournament in Makoti, Post 12 fans entered their state-qualifying game knowing they had a 3-1 regular season record against Beulah.

But Post 12 fans also knew that Beulah was a different team now and came into the region tournament as the No.1 seed; beating the No. 1 seed for a state tournament berth wouldn’t be easy.

Beulah held on to win 7-5, but early on Post 12 looked poised to grab the upset win. Post 12 lead 4-0 after the end of the top of the first inning.

For Beulah starter Alec Battest it was a long first inning – 36 pitches long to be exact. The hurler started strongly by retiring the first two batters but soon faced trouble getting the third out.
