Promising early results for track team

By Adam Thomas, BHG News Service

Springtime is once again late to the party, but that’s not stopping the Southern McLean track team as they go into another season. Two meets have already taken place and the local athletes wasted no time putting up promising numbers that are likely to only improve as the season progresses. "I think we are a little ahead of where we expected many of the athletes to be at this point of the season," said Southern McLean track coach Shayla Sinclair. "We definitely were pleased with their performances, because we haven’t even been able to do a full workout on our track or in our field area yet this year." Leading the charge for Southern McLean is pole vaulting virtuoso Monty Johnson. He became the first state qualifier in the pole vault event for all of Class B track and field this year, clearing 12 feet at the Charlie Denton Relays track meet and taking 4th place in the mixed competition that included Class A schools.
