Pull the Plug – it’s the law

The spread of aquatic nuisance species (ANS) isn’t just a fishing problem.

It’s everyone’s problem, especially when species such as zebra mussels enter waterways, plugging intakes and costing major expenses for businesses, industry, and consumers alike.

Zebra mussels are in the Red River; officials discovered them already latching onto city water intakes.

The North Dakota Game and Fish Department wants to make certain they don’t find their way into waterways because they’re virtually impossible to eliminate once established.

That’s one reason the agency, which is responsible for ANS regulations and enforcement, undertook the arduous process of implementing administrative rule changes in 2016.

The rules apply to more than fishing boats.
