Rough start for Southern McLean football

The opening weeks of the new football season haven’t been ideal for the Roughriders of Southern McLean as they faced stiff opposition from the Our Redeemers Bombers and the Hazen Bison in their first two games this year.
Southern McLean opened the season on the road in Berthold for week one, and there weren’t a whole lot of positives for the team on either side of the ball.
Offensively, the Roughriders were mostly without a passing game, connecting on only four of their 13 pass attempts. The result was a one-dimensional running game that had better success but was stopped by the Our Redeemer’s defense on all but one occasion in the second quarter when Tucker Bergquist ran in a nine yard touchdown for Southern McLean’s only score of the game.
The defensive team for Our Redeemer’s took advantage of Roughrider offensive miscues, scoring 15 of the team’s 40 points; an interception return, a fumble return, and a safety.
