Roughriders are 37 strong for new season

By Michael Johnson, Editor

The Southern McLean Roughriders won’t be the biggest or the most experienced bunch of football players in the league this year, and that’s a tough obstacle. What they do have is an excitement about the game that will help push them on to play harder, new head coach Richard Bjerklie said. Bjerklie comes to the Roughriders after serving as an assistant football coach at Hazelton-Moffit-Braddock. In the seven years coaching there, he was a part of two state championships and learned a lot from Hall of Fame coach Dan Imdieke. Bjerklie is the elementary principal at Wilton School. On Thursday, the team was practicing in the Washburn School gym due to wet conditions outside. The team is practicing in both Washburn and Wilton. Due to a damaged field in Wilton, all four home games will be played in Washburn this year.
